Detransitioning from Transgenderism

The American College of Pediatricians released, in August of this year, their statement against transgendering children, on the primary basis that:

A review of the current literature suggests that this protocol is founded upon an unscientific gender ideology, lacks an evidence base, and violates the long-standing ethical principle of “First do no harm.”

By extension, if the gender ideology lacks an evidence base, then it is also an invalid premise in adults.

The Canadian Pediatric Society has no position statement about transgenderism.

Dr Paul McHugh, a former psychiatrist in chief at Johns Hopkins Hospital, wrote in June 2014 (and was republished in the Wall Street Journal in May 2016):

“The transgendered suffer a disorder of “assumption” like those in other disorders familiar to psychiatrists. With the transgendered, the disordered assumption is that the individual differs from what seems given in nature—namely one’s maleness or femaleness. Other kinds of disordered assumptions…

The American College of Pediatricians (ACPeds) is a small, socially conservative advocacy group of pediatricians and other healthcare professionals in the United States. They formed to protest gays and lesbians adopting children. Radical feminists keep reblogging this group and other anti gay and lesbian groups and then wonder why people think that the religious right and radical feminism are in cahoots.

I’m sure that if non-conservative medical organs would come to their senses on the subject, we’d be the first to blog them. But people are between a rock and a hard place as it’s absolutely critical to criticize the medicine (or lack thereof) behind all this.

I completely agree that it’s important to note the politics of such organizations when promoting their work, however.

The same organization also claims that medical studies show that children should not be raised in same sex households as it does harm.

Yes, I am not supporting the people, I am supporting their reasoned stance on transgenderism. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if so many health care professionals were willing to speak out, we could fine-tune our public allegiances.

donesoverydone, where do we draw the lines? For example, I have a hard time with radical feminists who live in heterosexual relationships, yet some of these women are the clearest-thinking, hardest-working among my radfem allies. This is an important discussion, and I’d be glad to hear how you make your choices of allegiance.
